Below Victoria Falls the Zambezi squeezes into the Batoka Gorge, a zig-zag of sheer basalt walls where the river piles into big, powerful rapids. Rafting here is one of Africa’s great adventures. Your guides read every wave, and the scenery between rapids is as unforgettable as the ride.
After a safety briefing at the top of the gorge you hike down to the river, practise commands with your crew and then run a series of rapids through the day. Lunch is served along the way. The day ends with the climb out of the gorge and a cold drink at the top. Which section is run depends on water levels: low water (roughly mid-year to December) opens the full run, while high water means a shorter, still exhilarating day.
Prices are in US$ per person and include VAT. The park, conservation or activity levy is paid separately. Rates are valid until December 2026 and all activities are subject to availability.
Collection from your Victoria Falls hotel, then registration and a light breakfast at base.
Helmets, life jackets and paddles are fitted. Guides explain paddle commands and what to do if you swim.
Run the day’s section of rapids with rests in calm pools between the big water.
A packed lunch and drinks on a sandbank beneath the cliffs.
Hike out of the gorge (steep, allow time), refreshments at the top, then transfer back to your hotel.

No. Most guests are first-timers. You need reasonable fitness, you must be comfortable in water, and you must be able to manage the steep climb in and out of the gorge.

The river level decides it. The full run operates in low water, roughly from mid-year to December. In high water (early in the year) the operators run a shorter section or may pause rafting. We confirm the section for your dates.
