Overview

Below Victoria Falls the Zambezi squeezes into the Batoka Gorge, a zig-zag of sheer basalt walls where the river piles into big, powerful rapids. Rafting here is one of Africa’s great adventures. Your guides read every wave, and the scenery between rapids is as unforgettable as the ride.

After a safety briefing at the top of the gorge you hike down to the river, practise commands with your crew and then run a series of rapids through the day. Lunch is served along the way. The day ends with the climb out of the gorge and a cold drink at the top. Which section is run depends on water levels: low water (roughly mid-year to December) opens the full run, while high water means a shorter, still exhilarating day.

Prices are in US$ per person and include VAT. The park, conservation or activity levy is paid separately. Rates are valid until December 2026 and all activities are subject to availability.

I was terrified at the edge and so glad I did it. The crew were calm and professional.
